Le livre raconte qu’Ato Ayalew Mandefro, ami très proche de Getaneh Worku, lui offrit un magnétophone chez lui, à Washington DC, pour qu’il enregistre son histoire au lieu de l’écrire à la main. Getaneh lui répondit, sur ce même magnétophone, qu’il commencerait dès son retour dans le Michigan.
